Project Study: Blackrock Park

Blackrock Park in Dundalk, County Louth on Ireland’s East Coast provides a stunning setting for locals and tourists alike to relax in and enjoy. The park boasts numerous amenities including children’s playground, sensory garden, exercise area, sports zone, picnic area, butterfly garden, medieval square and the award winning Biodiversity Garden.

Here at Arbarr, we were tasked with the bespoke design of a community lighting project at the park through the use of renewable energy to provide a standalone system with monitoring and creating a sustainable way of powering the facility.

The project included the installation of public lighting, 1-2kW Wind Turbine, 2kW of Photo Voltaic Panels, Battery Park, Sustainable Energy Compound and Street Charging Unit. From our end, this meant the use of skills including electrical design including battery energy storage and full application design as well as remote monitoring using Bluetooth and the integration of wind and solar.

A representative from Blackrock Park had this to say about the project: “In keeping with our Environment Protection Ethos and  Sustainable Energy Policy, the system collects energy from the wind and sun to generate electricity for pathway lighting and other amenities within the park.”
